1. How come we have an advertising room?

Short answer: We have a lot of friends who are freelancing in advertising here. We also have some good contacts in other markets - potential clients who need good ideas quickly and for good prices. All they need is a place to "meet" - and this is our newest room. The Ad Room.

Long answer: When you're in TV commercials production, you make a lot of friends among the agency creative teams on your projects. You know those guys: they are very demanding when it comes to work, but also very friendly and funny when the wrap-up party starts... We kept good relationships with most of creatives we met, and we're even close friends with some of them. At some point at the end of 2006 we realised that a num-ber of people we knew quit their agencies and went for freelance careers - copywriters, art directors, graphic designers... In other words, a lot of high value resources available on the market. So we thought maybe we should gather those resources and see if they can mean something for the marketers we knew outside Romania. This is how the Room came to life: a virtual meeting place between your marketing problem and our creative solution.

2. Is The Ad Room an advertising agency?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No, we're not starting an agency. There are enough agencies out there al-ready, and they're doing their job very well... We're just trying to create a link between these two parties who can mutually benefit from working together: local freelance creatives and foreign clients. Technically, we work on a "per project" basis - we do not employ peo-ple, we call them in whenever there's a new brief. Plus "the room" is a virtual one. So, no secretary and IT guy salaries, and no rent on your bill - you only pay what you get: the idea!

3. Who will the Ad Room work for?

Short answer: Anybody. But we limit our field of activity to the foreign markets - that is, we'll only be pitching for campaigns that will be published outside Romania.

Long answer: We don't want to compete with the Romanian agencies - we're business partners with a lot of them, so... This is why we very clearly limit our activities to this niche: campaigns that are destined for other markets than Romania. (However, if you want to do a campaign for the Romanian market, and you don't have a local agency, we can help you with some recommendations. The e-mail address is the same.)

4. Who's in the Room for you?

Short answer: The people you need, when you need them. Experienced copywriters, art directors, graphic designers, with portfolios including all the major local and international clients in Romania.

Long answer: Freelancing as a creative is a decision hard to make - you leave a regular salary and the nice look of the agency's logo on your business cards, for a life full of un-known... Some days you'll get the work (and the pay), and some days you won't. It's a step you only take if you're confident enough in your professional abilities. This is why you'll find that most of the advertising freelancers are experienced people - senior copy-writers and art directors, former creative directors... So, by the very nature of the freelance business, you'll be working with some of the best advertising people in Romania. (But you'll get to see that in the work, won't you?)

5. What's in the room for you?

Short answer: Speed. Experience. Good prices. Fresh minds.

Long answer: Romania's economy grew up very fast during the last years. Which led to a high pace of the marketing and advertising activities, in all fields and categories - the more competition you have, the smarter you want your advertising to be, and the quicker you need it on the air. This is the environment in which all our friends learnt and practiced their jobs for years, working for multinational agencies and international clients. Which makes them experienced professionals, but doesn't take away the curiosity and fresh mind of an young person - the oldest guy in our Room is 37 years old… Fast, fresh, good, affordable - does it sound like something worth checking or is it just us? 6. How it works?

Short answer: The Ad Room is a creative shop. (OK, not a shop, a 'creative room'...)

Long answer: The process is the old one, more or less. You have to brief the creatives, but you won't need to fly to Romania for that - e-mail works just fine. They'll show you the work, but you won't have to set up a meeting room for us - we have e-mail, ftp, over night courier etc. Once you decide to go on with one of our ideas, a contract and prices negotia-tions will take place, most likely over the phone. You'll only need to travel to Romania if you want to have a beer with us (you're invited!). Or if you decide to do the production (film, photo etc.) here, with us. But that's a different subject.
